Isaiah 58 – Christmas Hampers

Matthew 25:34-40 – “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?  When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

Imagine standing at the side of the road day after day in the hope of finding a job. Imagine standing all day being hungry and then going home to a family who are looking to you to provide for them. It is like a prison for many.

Once a week we invite the people who wait for jobs outside on the pavement, into our property and serve them a hot meal. If there is food leftover some of them take ‘ takeaways’ for their families. It has been a privilege and a joy to be able to do this. In the past we have handed out a bucket of groceries to each person who comes to our Isaiah 58 lunch. This year we would like to do the same.

Our aim is to purchase 120 hampers. Each hamper costs R130.00 If you would like to contribute to this outreach into our community, you can either EFT (marked hampers) or place an envelope (marked hampers) in the Sunday offering bags. No contribution is too small.
