Core Values

Values are principles that underpin our belief system and the building blocks that help us fulfill the Vision the Father has entrusted to us. They are how we do things in the life of the church. These Values are what make the Lighthouse unique.

Salvation

Is why Jesus came to earth and died on the Cross of Calvary. He died so that each person on earth and in this great city of Johannesburg can receive Salvation. Salvation is the single most important event that can take place in a person’s life.

1 Peter 1:23 (ESV) since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God”

The Word of God

Is an essential part of the christian walk for any Christ Follower. It is what guides, corrects, approves and builds into a believers life. We read it, apply it and live by it. For it is given by God for our benefit. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing as fully inspired of God and accept them as the final authority for faith and life.

Psalm 119:105 (NLT) Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

Prayer

Is a vital aspect of the Christian life. Prayer is how we communicate with God and one of the ways God communicates with us. Prayer in its many forms is important for our function and growth as Christ Followers.

Isaiah 56:7 (NIV) …for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Water Baptism

Jesus was baptised in water at the beginning of His ministry. He commanded us to baptise others as they become followers of Jesus Christ. It is the outward expression of what has happened inside when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. When we are brought under the water it represents us “dying” with Jesus, and when we are brought up and out of the water it resembles us rising to a new life in Jesus.

Acts 19:5 (NASB) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Holy Spirit Baptism

We live this Christ life with the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides us and empowers us in our daily Christian walk.

Acts 2:4 (AMP) And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].”

Worship

We have a creative God who spoke everything around us into being. He saw the colours of the night sky, the variety of life, the intricacies of DNA and it was created. When we worship this wonderful Creator, how can we not also be creative and expressive in our love for Him. For when we worship Him in complete abandonment of who we are, He is well pleased.

Revelations 15:4 (NLT) Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous deeds have been revealed.”

The Trinity

We believe in the One Triune God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God, the Father, was revealed through the Old Testament Scriptures, we see God, the Son, (Jesus the Christ) revealed through the Gospels and we are experiencing God, the Holy Spirit, today as much as He is revealed throughout Scripture and in Acts.

Matthew 28:19 (ESV) … in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

The Kingdom of God

The Kingdom coming in and through our livesWe are part of God’s kingdom and want to see His reign and rule extended in our communities, cities and the nations. We anticipate the complete fulfillment of His Kingdom reign when Jesus returns.

Revelations 11:15 (AMP) … The dominion (kingdom, sovereignty, rule) of the world has now come into the possession and become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ (the Messiah), and He shall reign forever and ever (for the eternities of the eternities)!”

Generosity

Occurs when we realise the generosity of a Father Who sent His only Son to pay a debt on our behalf. This knowledge transforms our giving to that of reaching out to those in need, with love. It doesn’t matter in what capacity we give, what matters is that we reach out in love!

1 Tim 6:18 – 19 (NIV) Command them . . .  to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age , so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”

Team

God created the church to be a functioning body. We function as a body when we work together as a team. Team brings people from different backgrounds together, adding multiple gifts and dimensions to the tasks at hand.  The results of teamwork are amazing. At The Lighthouse we value working together in team.

Gen 11:6 (NIV) The LORD said , “ If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.”
